Nick Rose of Questar Gas Elected
2001 Chairman of American Gas Association

SALT LAKE CITY — D. N. "Nick" Rose, president and CEO of Questar Gas, has been elected chairman of the American Gas Association's board of directors for 2001. He was elected yesterday during the association's annual Executive Conference, held this year in Naples, Fla.

The American Gas Association (AGA) represents 189 local natural gas utilities that serve customers in all 50 states. AGA members deliver natural gas to over 93 percent of the 60 million U.S. homes and businesses that use natural gas. Additionally, AGA provides services to member natural gas pipelines, marketers, gatherers, international gas companies and a variety of industry associates.

"As the chief executive of one of the nation's fastest growing natural gas utilities, Nick Rose understands how to expand the market for natural gas while operating distribution companies more efficiently. His experience, leadership skills and team approach will be valuable to AGA members during the coming year," said David N. Parker, AGA president and CEO.

Mr. Rose said, "During my year as chairman of AGA, I plan to emphasize a theme that we in the Pacific Coast Gas Association employed successfully several years ago: ‘Right Fuel, Right Time, Right Now.' Natural gas has proven to be increasingly popular as the right fuel for homeowners, business owners, manufacturers, transportation fleets and electric-power generators. The time is right and the opportunities are out there. We are enthusiastic about using AGA's ‘Fueling the Future' as a rallying point for getting started on policies and programs that will grow the market reliably for decades to come."

Mr. Rose has served in several AGA capacities and, in 1995, was named its Marketing Executive of the Year. He is a director of the Western Energy Institute, and served in the same capacity and other leadership positions for its predecessor, the Pacific Coast Gas Association. Active in civic organizations, Mr. Rose serves as a vice chair of the board of trustees for Westminster College. He is a member of the board of governors of the Utah Shakespearean Festival and is its immediate past chair. Mr. Rose is a member of the advisory board of Junior Achievement of Utah and is a past two-term president of that organization. He is a recipient of the Junior Achievement National Silver and Bronze Leadership awards. He currently serves as chair of the honorary board of Prevent Child Abuse Utah and received the organizations' Child Advocate of the Year award in 1995.

Mr. Rose has served on the boards and as chair of the Salt Lake City Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, the Economic Development Corporation of Utah, the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and the Utah Foundation. He received a bachelor of science in electrical engineering and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Utah.

AGA's other elected officers for 2000 are: First Vice Chair Wm. Michael Warren Jr., chairman, president and CEO of Energen Corp. (Birmingham, Ala.), and Immediate Past Chair Gary Neale, chairman, president and CEO of NiSource Inc. (Merrillville, Ind.).
